30 years ago, Jacques Brel left us. This belgian singer isn't very well known from the english speaking crowds, and yet, he is recognized as one of the best singer of his century. Folks like Sinatra, Bowie, Nina Simone etc... covered his songs. As you'll see below, the famous "seasons in the sun" song from Terry Jacks was actually a translation of Brel's "le moribond".In the French speaking world, he's a god. This song above (quand on a que l'amour) was his first and also my favorite and yet not his most famous.
As a literature and history students, we used to spend many evening listening to his songs, doing what students do!
